Dental Sleep Medicine

Dental Sleep Medicine focuses on the management of sleep-related breathing disorders (SBD), which includes snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), with oral appliance therapy (OAT) and upper airway surgery. OAT involves the customized selection, fabrication, fitting, adjustments, and long-term follow-up care of specially designed oral devices, worn during sleep, which reposition the lower jaw and tongue base forward to maintain a more open upper airway. Surgery may be an effective treatment for SBD if performed competently and on correctly identified specific anatomic sites that contribute to upper airway obstruction. The diagnosis of SBD, particularly the potentially life-threatening medical disorder OSA, must be determined by sleep physicians. The treatment of selected SBD cases with OAT should be performed by qualified dentists, and upper airway surgery by qualified surgeons. (From AADSM Guidelines)

CDADSM - A Distinctive Dental Practice

The Center for  Dental Aesthetics and Dental Sleep Medicine is a state-of-the-art practice where the quality of patient care and dedication to patient comfort is never compromised.  Mark J. Friedman, DDS and his son Matt J. Friedman, DDS offer a full-spectrum of general dentistry services in addition to the latest dental alternatives for the treatment of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea.

A Patient's Health and Comfort Comes First

"A commitment to unsurpassed quality care and patient comfort comes first and foremost in our practice" says Dr. Mark who served on the part-time faculty at the University of Southern California, School of Dentistry for 30 years.  " We utilize innovative technology to insure a superlative quality of dental care and at the same time, an enjoyable experience for our patients."  First-run movies, commercial-free television sitcoms or dramas as well as a vast musical library are just a click away with Apple TV® and a remote control.  The contoured chair, wireless stereo headset, LCD screen and polar fleece blankets make a dental visit more like a private screening room experience.  "There is no reason to fear dentistry in our ultra-modern office and we prove that to new patients in the practice each and every day" says Dr. Matt who also trained at the USC School of Dentistry.

Focus on Comfort

Our facility is specifically designed for maximum patient comfort.  Like nearly half the U.S. population, Dr. Mark Friedman never enjoyed visiting a dentist.  Therefore, he was personally motivated to incorporate the latest technologies and techniques to insure his patients have the most comfortable experience possible.  Dr. Mark, Dr. Matt and the entire staff are dedicated to changing the "old" perception that visiting a dental office has to be unpleasant.  Patients tell us all the time that we are meeting that commitment to them.

Flat Screen Entertainment Center

Each treatment room has a large LCD screen, remote control and wireless headset (to block out unwanted noise).  Patients can select from a huge library of iTunes music or programming from the Discovery Channel, Science Channel, History Channel, Animal Planet, Food Network and much more.  The Apple TV library of first run movies, sitcoms and Podcasts is just a click away.  A comfortable, contour chair, blanket, remote control and privacy headphones, makes your dental visit a cozy audiovisual experience.

Computerized Injections

If you ask most people what they dislike the most about visiting a dentist, they will usually respond it is, "the pain and the shots."  Since 1996, we eliminated the traditional injection syringe in favor of a computer-controlled device called The Wand.  This small device has an onboard computer chip that controls a precision motor.  It very slowly delivers local anesthetic through a micro-fine needle, making the injection virtually imperceptible.  Studies have shown that controlling the flow rate of the anesthetic solution has a major impact on injection comfort.   Wand injections are often more effective than traditional, syringe-type injections.  Patients rave about the Wand injections, especially those that have anxiety about needles.
